Link Imported Joomla Content to K2 and Remove Joomla Content

I couldn't find the answer to a question, so I figured it out on my own. I imported Joomla! content into K2 through that nifty little button in the upper right corner with the flames and removed the Joomla! content in this order: articles, categories, and sections. Unfortunately, this caused the menus to not be not linked to their cooresponding
sections, categories, and articles anymore, and resulted in a 404 error page when trying to navigate to the page.

For the sake of discussion I will use the following example of how to link the content that was imported content into K2 to the Joomla menus.

1. Go to Menus > Topmenu
2. Edit a Menu Item > About Joomla!
3. In Menu Item Type (in this example it is Categories)
4. Click Change Type Button
5. Change Menu Item > Select Menu Item Type (the method is to match the Joomla! section,
category, or article to its cooresponding K2 category or item. In this example it is a K2 Category)
6. Choose K2 > Item listings > Categories
7. In Parameters (Basic) > Select one or more categories > About Joomla!

Presto! Link works again.

OK, I'm good with this. Here's another question (and it's a real NOVICE one) -- what in K2 takes the place of the Frontpage content module? I imported all my content, updated my menus to K2 categories, but my home page is (of course) blank. Is there a module I should be using to get K2 content on the home page.

Hi Colette, this has just all been covered in the new documents at K2joom.com, sorry it was not available when you started this. Unfortunate, but a good lesson.

this is hard to follow, instead of giving hints, just say " (hint: match Joomla! section "what it is that you're trying to show us. The subject is always complicated, playing hide n' seek is not really helping.

Whatever is done will modify the core, but will work. How about putting the category id's in a field like the xtra filelds and teach the core to parse them out. Its changing the way things work - not likely to happen unless a module like followeyes…

I don't think the concept of the single-category per item content structure is a way of thinking that is advanced and, therefore, a reason to change the content construction strategy and our subsequent way of thinking. It is merely a huge limitation…

you can get the extra fields like this if it suits your needs $custom = $this->item->extra_fields; and then addressing extra fields for the item like echo $custom[1]->value; depending on the position, 0, 1,2,3,4 etc in the array experiment with this…
